Official release dates and information on the Nike Kyrie 7

Spontaneity. The rapidity. Speed. Three words that come to mind to describe Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving‘s play, and three key elements of Kyrie’s latest signing Nike Basketball shoe: the Kyrie 7. Designed by Ben Nethongkome — the man who also created the Kyrie 4, Kyrie 5 and Kyrie 6 — the Kyrie 7 is lightweight and responsive yet still supportive, built to support crossovers, Kyrie cuts and charges towards the hoop. “Kyrie wants to take the torch as the go-to performance role model for this type of cup player,” Nethongkome says. “The 7 was designed with that kind of attention to detail.”

Created in partnership with Nike’s NXT Advanced Design Studio, the construction of the Kyrie 7 utilizes feedback from real-time game data and Kyrie’s visits to the Nike Sports Research Lab. The uppers are made from a lightweight composite mesh, while two forefoot TPU “fingers” increase lace lockdown and nod to a drill the playmaker dad gave him when he was a child: lean against a wall on two fingers to strengthen his hands. The outsoles take data from the Sports Research Lab, with an angled traction pattern to aid Kyrie’s signature cuts. If you look on the midsole, you can spot Kyrie’s signature Nike Basketball iconography along with the names of her mother and daughter. There are also some similarities to the Kyrie 6, namely the articulated Air Zoom Turbo unit in the forefoot and the unchanged midfoot chassis.

Colorwise, the teal “Special FX” pair nods to Kyrie’s love of film, the light-hued “Expressions” salute artists and creators and the “Icons of Sport Reds acknowledge Kyrie’s game-winning shot in the 2016 Finals while also representing some of his favorite NBA stars like Kobe Bryant. Finally, the dark to light “Soundwave” is a tactile acknowledgment of Kyrie’s love for music. There’s also a “BK Black” makeup and a blue/gum “Sisterhood” iteration.

The Nike Kyrie 7 will debut in the first four colorways listed on November 11 via a “mystery box” style release and “BK Black” versions on November 23 – all via the Nike Online Store. A retail price has yet to be announced.
